paladiniv
Dear Forum,I would like to ask when approximately is estimated to begin use in the oceans for marine shipping business case. I read in an article https://smartmaritimenetwork.com/2021/03/09/spacex-applies-for-authorisation-to-operate-starlink-terminals-on-ships/ that laser linked sats and stabilized DISHY are in development stage, but in order to plan ahead sat coms is there even a rough approximate estimation? ethan
Starlink ( Elon ) mentioned that RV/Motorhomes would get coverage. Here is the interesting part which may delay marine starlink roll out to ships/marine...In order for starlink to become available to the marine sector in particular ships - The marine radiosat manufacturers need to get patent licenses, and licenses from Starlink/SpaceX to be able to build radio gear that can handle marine environments & connect into starlinks new sat system. The marine radio sat manufacturers have to get a license to build terminals that can connect to starlink satellites. IF Starlink does not give out licenses to the marine radiosat manufacturers - We will have to wait until SpaceX starts developing their own terminal/radiosats for marine/shipping environments. I would say within a 2-3 year period some marine radiosat manufacturers will start to push out starlink compatible satellite systems for ships.
