Certain sites are blocked

My friend in London UK has Starlink.

Why does it block access to certain sites?

I cannot access the Wayback machine unless I use a VPN.

Many countries around the world limit access to certain Web sites for one reason or another. Lokewise, some web sites do not respond to traffic from some countries.

either way, the restrictions are generally based upon your IP address.

It is possible that the Wayback Machine is not available in England. Though I can’t say for certain.

In no way is the Wayback Machine restricted in the UK (either by the site owner or ISPs ((starlink aside)) ).

I have never had issues accessing it with other UK based ISPs.

For some strange reason, when I try to access the site, Chrome gives an ERR_CONNECTION_RESET message.

Today they seem to be using Claranet as a gateway, when I last ran a Tracert, they were using Vodafone.

You’re well beyond my technical expertise here and I’m not quite sure the point you are making. If you’re having trouble accessing web sites that should not be restricted, your best bet is to reach out to Starlink Support.

Hello, I live in France and I have been using Starlink for 2 weeks : but problem, I can not connect to a lot of sites including Microsoft outlook, my email website. The message ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE is displayed. I tried everything but nothing works. I can access all Google sites (youtube, gmail, etc.). The problem is the same on all laptops or Androids. I'm waiting for feedback from support. Did anyone have the problem?

The only thing that comes to mind the possibility of geographic restrictions. However, I can’t imagine Microsoft sites being geo-restricted. 

Have you reached out to Starlink Support? Your questions hints that you might have already done that. That might be your best bet.

It might also be worth contacting Microsoft Support.

So - I am setting up a Starlink now and I have this problem. I am in Canada, and I visit sites here in Canada (should not be blocked from Canada) - but  some cannot be accessed.

Example : https://marinetraffic.com can be accessed, https://weather.gc.ca/marine cannot be accessed. 

I am pretty sure the problem is Starlink is serving me sites on its IPV6 network, and some sites are supporting only IPV4. But the funny thing for me was that we rebooted the Starlink a few times, and the PC, and a Switch and sometimes we did reach https://weather.gc.ca. So I don't know why it worked, sometimes.

IPv4 v IPv6 doesn't matter... at least, not as far as your access to sites is concerned. Starlink support both IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and traffic. If, when, and where it is needed, they should be able to route IPv4 traffic over IPv6 and vice-versa.

The real culprit here is Geo-fencing. If you are near the US border with Canada, you could be picking up a satellite that is over the US and connecting to a US ground station. Guess what that means? Even though you are physically in Canada, your IP address will be associated with the location of the ground station.

Feel free to open a support ticket to talk directly to Starlink Support about this. It comes up pretty regularly. However, I can tell you that, to date, the answer has been that there is no way to guarantee a customer an IP address that maps to their physical location. The reason has to do with Starlink's Network Design and Architecture -- which aren't changing any time soon.
