Is a factory reset of the router required for new owner

Recommended Posts

The existing owner is prepared to transfer the service to me. Neither one of us is at the location where the service is in use.  Is it required that I (new owner) do a factory reset on the router once service is transferred?  If the factory reset is done to delete the existing wifi name and password, the existing owner has provided that information to me.   Once I am at the location, which will be in 6 weeks, I can execute a factory reset to change that information.  Or is it mandatory that a factory reset be performed at the initial transfer in order for the equipment to be registered to the new account?

A factory reset will not (or should not) affect the accounts connected to the Starlink system.

To transfer ownership of the Starlink Kit, the original owner must login to the Starlink app or Web site and initiate the transfer of ownership to you. After that process is complete -- they'll have to tell you when it shows complete on their account -- you can attach the Starlink Kit to your account using the Starlink app or Web site. If this process does not happen, you are in for a rough road to claim and use your Starlink system. You DO NOT want to go there.

As for a factory reset, well, that's up to you. Personally, I would do this on a used Starlink System just to be sure I know how it is configured... for WiFi and LOTS of other things. 🙂
