Experiencing slow starlink speeds? - Help & Tips

Customers can expect to see download speeds between 50 Mb/s and 250 Mb/s and latency as low as 20 ms in most locations. You may see speeds on the lower end in congested areas and at times of peak usage. We expect improvements as we fully deploy our satellite constellation with future launches – especially with Starship!

If you are seeing slow speeds consistently - even outside of times of peak usage (5pm – 10pm local) there may be issues with your setup that are negatively impacting your speeds. Common examples include: the location of your router, hardware or cable damage, temporary network conditions, or 3rd party network equipment.

Follow the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Check for alerts, obstructions, or outages in the Starlink App.
  2. To check your average speed, run a few speed tests from the Starlink App by selecting the "Speed" icon on the home screen.
  3. In the Starlink App, go to "Connected Devices" to view device signal strength. Signal weakens the further you are from router. Ensure router is in an upright position and in an open area. Run another speed test when you are closer to the router to see if speed improves.
  4. Verify there is no damage to Starlink, cables, or connectors. Cuts, hard bends, or alterations to cables can impact service.
  5. Disconnect all 3rd party (non-Starlink) hardware connected in your Starlink setup and run another speed test.
  6. Power cycle Starlink by unplugging from power and then plugging back in.

If you are still consistently experiencing speeds less than 50 Mb/s outside of peak hours, please contact Support with the following information:

  1. Are you using any 3rd party (non-Starlink) hardware in your Starlink setup, like alternate routers, WiFi extenders, additional cabling, or surge suppressors?
  2. Do slow speeds seem to occur with certain devices, websites or applications, or at specific times of the day?
  3. Try at least two devices to conduct a speed test. Ideally with one connected over ethernet to the Starlink router. Report the speed test site used, server location displayed in the test results, and what time you ran your tests.
