My bad, this thing for some reason doesn’t like the rj45 connectors I had used on the outdoor section of wiring. Everything appeared good and seemed to work when I tested it inside with my laptop-router. Re-terminated with a different brand of connectors I had and it is working now. the unshielded wire doesn’t seem to have harmed the throughput, I’m still getting ~100Mbps like I was previously2 points

Same here. Starlink updated to 2024.10.13.MR44429 and the message to prompt me to update has gone. Everything seems to work fine. in the meantime I receive a reply for support 1 hour ago: “I do apologize that you are having issues with updates being ran on your Dish, we are aware of this issue and are actively working to resolve this.” so it was indeed a software related issue!2 points

What you're looking for is "Bypass Mode" which disables pretty much all router functions and passes the WAN address out by DHCP to your own router or firewall. Once in Bypass the only way back is to factory reset the SL router, but that's an easy button press. Note they use CGNAT so your address will be on 100.64.0.0/10. This also means you'll still have double NAT.2 points

I live where there is no cellphone functionality; the cell signal strength is about -120db. Cellphones will detect my router's wi-fi signal, but (I believe) due to the fact that the cell signal I am able to receive does not have the "LTE" component, cellphones will not give satisfactory performance. Is there a method to utilize Starlink in combination with some other technology, as a workaround? Any insight would be appreciated.1 point

While away on vacation a planned (planned after I left) power outage occurred. I didn't worry as it was plugged into a surge protected UPS and this has occurred successfully before. Upon returning I found that my router was not recognizing it had power. It was in router bypass mode to use my own router. I have tried the following: - Testing different plugs that I know work - Factory resetting through the plug in and out method - Tested the external router at my neighbors (no issue) I have contacted customer support but was looking to see if anyone had recommendations while I wait.1 point

Thanks. The NAS has no internet syncing configured, and is not exposed to the internet for remote access. I do however need to use the DNS zone on the Synology router so various clients can get to the NAS easily. I don't believe the Gen3 Starlink router will perform this service. When the Starlink is in bypass mode, is its wifi turned off? We used the same SSID/pw on the starlink router (before set to bypass mode) when configuring the Synology router. We did this to ease client transition. If the Gen3 wifi is still on, I can change the SSID/pw so no one will join there when the Synology is providing wifi.1 point

Google Fi provides service via WiFi and, this, coupled with Starlink, works well for me and my wife's phones.1 point

Hi @Xavier77ITA Unfortunately starlink does not accept prepaid cards. However they do support credit cards, debit cards, and ApplePay. You can add prepaid card to apple pay - Then use apple pay to purchase. Starlink currently does not offer annual plans - However, check the plan options during signup as they may have annual options available. You can use the same card/apple pay to pay for all six kits. Hope this helps 🙂1 point

You will need to install a Dual-WAN router than can handle two Internet connections if you want to use both connections simultaneously. This requires somewhat advanced knowledge of networking. I've actually done this and found that it works well, but I was using a $2,500 commercial router and had someone skilled who was willing to help me with the setup.1 point

I have just received an update, which I was also able to trigger manually. The issue has now been resolved. It's version: 2024.10.13.MR44429.1 point

Hello, Thank you for your response. I have created a support ticket and will keep you updated on any information I receive from them. Currently, there are two firmware versions available for Dishy: • 2024-10-20: 2024.10.13.mr44429 • 2024-10-18: ae62e7b0-2acc-4b8f-a6c2-2fee28fa365c.uterm_manifest.release Neither of these versions has been installed yet. I assume that, since SpaceX deploys firmware updates in batches, there may be a delay affecting my region. also tried factory Reset, connect dishy directly to router without any extenuation cables but no luck.1 point

For you problem you can try this step. Go to your WiFi settings, forget the network, then try reconnecting by entering the password again. You can Check if your laptop WiFi drivers are up to date. You can do this through the Device Manager. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset. Make sure your network adapter is not being turned off to save power Device Manager > Network Adapter > Properties > Power Management. Also you can Try a different network Hope this will help you1 point

@twagger I'll definitely look at getting a spare Gen 3 router. I'm working on a UniFi home wifi/mesh system for my house, and when I get everything settled and in place, I'll be putting my Starlink Router into bypass mode.1 point

I did eventually get an actual answer after several that just spewed out chat-bot canned responses no remotely related to the question. The answer being that with some minor reservation, I can expect the gateway address to remain as 100.64.0.1.1 point

I'd get a spare router. I've been suspicious of Starlink internals being sensitive to heat or poor soldering. The reason I've said this is that I've had similar outages in my Gen2 Starlink with the router bypassed and an Ethernet adapter to use a TP-net router in my house. My Starlink dish is 450 ft from my house because otherwise I couldn't get an unobstructed view of the sky. Yeah, it's a long story with the upshot being that those Ethernet adapters don't hold up very well for the reasons stated. So I'm saying that I think that the Starlink equipment may be a weak point and it behooves to purchase spares in order to maintain continuous servive. Aside this I'm going on three years happy to have Starlink. I'm in a hilly rural place where the best internet without Starlink is a crummy DSL (4-6 Mbps at best).1 point
-
There are a few ways to do this, depending on your networking knowledge and requirements. Starting point would be finding best place to mount the Starlink dish to give it a clear view. In my case that's the garage wall, with the Starlink router and power supply wall mounted inside. I already had Cat5e to the house. So I use one to link the SL router to our main wireless router in th house.1 point

Starlink doesn't offer static IPs. You can get a public-facing IP, but it is still DHCP and subject to rotation. However, the official response from Starlink is that it rarely changes (even during reboots/firmware upgrades). It basically functions as a static IP, but they reserve the right to change it for network reconfiguration at their benefit. You can now get a Starlink "enterprise kit" that is the standard dish without the router. It includes a power supply and longer cable for $799 if I'm not mistaken.1 point
-
Did you get your Starlink kit yet? Starlink Gen-2 Routers require the Starlink Ethernet Adapter. Gen-3 Routers have built-in Ethernet. You must be certain that the Cat 6 cable includes a connection for the POE required by the antenna. I'm not sure if a standard Cat 6 POE shielded cable would work or not. For both Gen-2 and Gen-3 setups, the power source is the router itself. I wouldn't put that in my network closet. The HD kit has a separate power supply for the antenna, but it is a completely different (and more expen$ive) setup than the Standard kit...1 point

OK, I worked it out myself. Even though the plug has a tab lock, it doesn't lock. Pull hard to detach the cable! I didn't do that at first because I didn't want to break anything, but that's what works.1 point

To follow up on this, I determined I had my QoS (Quality of Service) setting incorrectly set, especially with the new faster internet. now.1 point

Correct there maybe satellite firmware updates, routing updates and numerous other system related maintenance conducted at low peak times. Otherwise there is firmware updates rolled out around that similar time for dishy & router.1 point

Greetings all Starlink users. " Unofficial update on congestion/slow data speeds" Starlink terminal users maybe experiencing slow data speeds and/or congestion currently in some regions. Starlink RV users in areas of high usage/demand will also be experiencing slow speeds. Whilst engineers work on increasing capacity, and SpaceX is launching more satellites - Be patient, unless your terminal has been offline for longer than 24 hours - Resetting, or restarting your starlink system will not achieve higher bandwidth results or less congestion. If your terminal has been offline for longer than 24 hours, check out https://support.starlink.com for further instructions on how to get your terminal running again. Why is there currently slow speeds? Some regions from our research are experiencing high congestion, low connectivity due to over subscription - E.g Too many clients spread across too little satellites, spectrum bandwidth is being pushed resulting in high congestion levels. Whilst a large number of RV dish terminals are roaming to other areas of which are already at capacity, this is pushing some regions to the limit of the spectrum available. Whats going to solve this problem? - Engineers with lots of coffee.... - More satellites launched to handle capacity alongside groundstations - RV users not venturing into overcapacity areas, or using RV terminal permanently in areas or cells which are typically not available or pending registration status due to capacity. <- This is a problem I'm unsure how they will solve. More updates to come. Feel free to post your speedtests, outage logs and region here in this thread if you are experiencing congestion issues. This will help further users identify if they too maybe experiencing region congestion.1 point

Reports have increased - Are you seeing congestion/outage issues? Feel free to reply with: Bandwidth rates - Internet only. ( WiFi only indicates your RF interference 😄 ) Outages, Time Period of which connectivity is offline or not 100%. Region1 point

If you need to remove the cable, tie waxed cord to the plug end and pull the cable free. When it's time to put the cable back, the cord should easily renew the cable without snagging.1 point
